Next weekend’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway has added some more star power.
Last month, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series star Kevin Harvick announced he would participate in the race, scheduled for June 24. On Thursday, the track announced fellow Cup drivers Ryan Blaney and Daniel Suarez also plan to compete in the event.
Harvick will compete with Jefferson Pitts Racing and last raced in the series in 2007 at Iowa, where he celebrated his seventh series win. He hasn’t raced a full-time in the series since 1997.
“I have fun when I go do those events. You’d love to win and you want to go out and do that obviously to be competitive,” Harvick said recently on his radio show “Happy Hours” on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.
“It’s just a series that gave me several breaks and several opportunities to showcase what I did as a kid.”
Blaney, who earned his first Cup win last weekend at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, will race for CGR and Suarez will race with MDM Motorsports in the team’s first West series start of the year. The June 25 Cup race at Sonoma will be Blaney’s second and the first of Suarez’s career.
The Pro Series West race will also feature several up-and-comers, including Todd Gilliland, Derek Kraus, Julia Landauer, Will Rodgers and Michael Self.
